Congressman John Sullivan's 2008 Campaign
My Presidential
Endorsement!
JOHN
McCAIN!
Currently, we are in need of a leader to pull our nation through the tough times. As Americans, we are waged in a critical war on terror, facing the problems of liberals attacking the 2nd ammendment, God is being taken out of our everyday lives, and patriotism is rapidly depleting across the nation in both young and old citizens. The decision that we make now for who will lead this great nation will effect the lives of the world forever. Why must we support Senator McCain? I am asking you to support him because he will protect conservative rights. I predict this election is going to be tight. The dems want to run their campaigns as if they are running against President Bush for a 3rd term. Everything progressive that came to be under our current President's administration will be undone in the event of Barack capturing enough votes to hold the Office of President of these great United States. You can be guaranteed that the democrats will fight at their hardest to deplete the military, take away our 2nd ammendment, ruin all of the progress that we've made in the Middle East, and destroy the remnants of patriotism in America. It is for these reasons, that I believe strongly in a vote for John McCain.

Members of the Honor Guard made up of the Scouts of Troop 214, opened the Eagle Court of Honor with a flag ceremony. From a hidden area, the Voice of the Eagle explained the journey on the road to Eagle, taken by the fourteen year old Scout.
The impressive array of speakers started with the KMRG morning show host, Joe Kelly.

Iran Test Fires Russian Missiles in Strait of Hormuz
News Max
TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards test fired its new Russian defense missile system Wednesday near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, state radio reported.
The two-day maneuvers are Iran's second since the United Nations Security Council approved economic sanctions against it Dec. 23, which ban selling to Iran materials and technology that it could use in its nuclear and missile programs.
As tensions rise over Iran's nuclear standoff with the West, the United States and Iran have pursued an escalating series of military moves, with Washington sending a second aircraft carrier battle group to the region and Iran responding with more frequent maneuvers.
The Revolutionary Guards' began the games Wednesday in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, which flank the strait, through which some 20 percent of the world's oil transits daily.
The goal of the maneuvers, dubbed Saegheh and Badr, is to improve the "defense, stamina and operation" of participating units, state radio reported. The first word of the games' name means lightening, while the second refers to a decisive battle in the early days of Islam.
The Revolutionary Guards is an elite military corps with more than 200,000 members and its own naval and air forces. It is independent of the regular armed forces and controlled directly by the supreme leader. It oversees vital interests such as oil and natural gas installations and the nation's missile arsenal.
Iran announced in January that it had received the Tor M-1 Russian air defense missile system, though it did not say when the weapons had arrived. Moscow had said previously it would supply 29 of the systems to Iran under a $700 million contract signed in December 2005.
Iran in January launched a three-day military maneuvers, including short-range missile tests on its mainland. The United States and several of its Western allies believe that Iran is using the nuclear program to produce an atomic weapon — charges Iran denies, saying its aim is to generate electricity.

North Korea: Nuclear Test Successful
News Max
North Korea faced a barrage of condemnation and calls for retaliation Monday after it announced that it had set off a small atomic weapon underground, a test that thrust the secretive communist state into the elite club of nuclear-armed nations.
The United States, Japan, China and Britain led a chorus of criticism and urged action by the United Nations Security Council in response to the reported test, which fell one day after the anniversary of reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's accession to power nine years ago.
The Security Council had warned North Korea just two days earlier not to go through with any test, and the Pyongyang government's defiance was likely to lead to calls for stronger sanctions against the impoverished and already isolated country.
White House spokesman Tony Snow called for "immediate actions to respond to this unprovoked act" and said that the United States was closely monitoring the situation and "reaffirms its commitment to protect and defend our allies in the region."
South Korea's geological institute estimated that the test's power was equivalent to 550 tons of TNT, far smaller than the two nuclear bombs the U.S. dropped on Japan in World War II.
The U.S. Geological Survey said it recorded a magnitude-4.2 seismic event in northeastern North Korea. Asian neighbors also said they registered a seismic event, but only Russia said its monitoring services had detected a nuclear explosion.

SIERRA VISTA, Arizona — A 39-year-old man died after a swarm of bees attacked him and his father, according to a media report Monday.
The two men were working on a roof Sunday when they accidentally disturbed a bee hive. While the father sought refuge inside the house, the son stayed outside to try to ward off the bees, Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's Department, told the Sierra Vista Herald.
The son was stung about 300 times. The father was stable in stable condition at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Sunday afternoon after being stung 100 times, Capas said.
Sheriff's deputies and firefighters used foam to calm the bees. Two emergency workers were stung, but were in good condition, Capas told the newspaper.

Sullivan Votes to Protect Traditional Marriage
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sullivan voted in favor of H.J. Res. 88, The Marriage Protection Amendment – a Constitutional amendment defining marriage in America as the union of a man and a woman. The amendment received majority support in the House, but did not reach the two-thirds majority required to pass. Today’s vote represents an increase of nine votes from the last time it was considered in the House.“Today’s vote shows that members of Congress from both parties recognize the importance of preserving our nation’s tradition of marriage. Overwhelming evidence shows that a union between a man and a woman is by far the best environment for raising children. Children who are raised in a traditional intact family by a mother and father are healthier, more successful, and have better life outcomes than those who do not.
“Too many activist federal judges are legislating from the bench and are redefining the traditional role of marriage. It is vital that judges do their jobs, and allow state legislatures to legislate, so as to maintain the careful balance between state and federal rights. The Marriage Protection Amendment ensures that the democratic process at the state level will decide the allocation of the benefits and privileges traditionally associated with marriage, not unelected judges.”

Sullivan Applauds Capture and Deportation of Criminal Illegal Aliens
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Sullivan released the following statement regarding the arrest and deportation of 127 criminal illegal aliens from Tulsa and Oklahoma City in the past week as a part of the Department of Homeland Security’s “Operation Return to Sender”:“Since elected to Congress, I have tirelessly worked to draw attention to the immigration crisis occurring in Eastern Oklahoma and throughout our entire nation. The 46 arrests made last Wednesday in Tulsa are an important step forward in dealing with the criminal illegal alien population in Eastern Oklahoma. I would like to thank the hardworking local law enforcement who assisted the officers and agents from ICE’s Offices in Oklahoma City and Dallas to successfully carry out this mission. Enforcement of our interior immigration laws is a critical step toward getting a handle on the illegal immigration crisis facing the U.S.”

Al Gore's Convenient Lie:
The Global Warming SpinThe global warming controversy has been heating up as the media issues dire warnings about the planet's future.
Riding the media heat wave, Al Gore recently released his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."
Despite plaudits from the major media, NewsMax Magazine finds that the film, in fact, offers some "convenient lies."
In the July edition, you'll find out if all the talk about global warming points to a legitimate threat - or if it's a lot of hot air.
NewsMax Magazine's special report "Al Gore Spins Global Warming" debunks many widely promulgated notions about the global warming threat and finds that truth is the first casualty in Gore's apocalyptic film.
The compelling report by Lowell Ponte - author of the best-selling book about changing climate, "The Cooling" - and Marc Morano details the propaganda blitz about global warming … and the facts it obscures.

Poncho Via and Friend
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
DENVER -- La reconquista, a radical movement calling for Mexico to "reconquer" America's Southwest, has stepped out of the shadows at recent immigration-reform protests nationwide as marchers held signs saying, "Uncle Sam Stole Our Land!" and waved Mexico's flag.
Even as organizers urged marchers to display U.S. flags, the theme of reclaiming "stolen" land remained strong. One popular banner read: "If you think I'm illegal because I'm a Mexican, learn the true history because I'm in my homeland."
"We need to change direction," said Jose Lugo, an instructor in Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder at a campus march last week. "And by allowing these 50,000, 50 million [immigrants] to come in here, we can do that."
The revolutionary tone has surprised even longtime immigration watchers such as Ira Mehlman, the Los Angeles-based spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
"I've always been skeptical myself about this [reconquista], but what I've seen over the last few weeks leads me to believe that there's more there than I thought," Mr. Mehlman said.
"You're seeing people marching with Mexican flags chanting, 'This is our country.' I don't think that we can dismiss this as youthful exuberance or a bunch of hotheads," he said.
Hispanic rights leaders insist there's nothing to the so-called reconquista, sometimes referred to as Aztlan, the mythical ancestral homeland of the Aztecs that reportedly stretches from the border to southern Oregon and Colorado.
Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican American Political Association in Los Angeles, one of the march organizers, was infuriated when a reporter asked him about the reconquista.
"I can't believe you're bothering me with questions about this. You're not serious," Mr. Lopez said. "I can't believe you're bothering with such a minuscule, fringe element that has no resonance with this populous."
At the same time, some analysts say the seismic demographic shifts brought on by unchecked border crossings and birth rates are resulting in a de facto reconquista.
"Demographically, socially and culturally, the reconquista of the Southwest United States by Mexico is well under way," Harvard University professor Samuel P. Huntington said in 2004.
"No other immigrant group in U.S. history has asserted or could assert a historical claim to U.S. territory. Mexicans and Mexican-Americans can and do make that claim," he said.___________
Sullivan Finds Revelations Concerning Immigration Benefits Agency Troubling: USCIS Must Be Fixed
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sullivan sent letters to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, and to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, stating his “grave concerns” regarding U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) ability to properly process the millions of immigration applications they receive every year and their ability to handle the processing of 12-20 million immigration applications that a massive amnesty or guestworker program could entail. 16 members of the House Immigration Reform Caucus joined Sullivan in voicing these concerns.
“Illegal immigration is one of the most pressing issues facing our country today,” Sullivan said. “USCIS’s current deficiencies create dangerous loopholes, which could allow potential terrorists to enter our country, undetected by the very authorities who have been put in place to protect the U.S. from terrorists. The fact that USCIS will not have a fraud-management system in place until ten years after the attacks of September 11, 2001 is absolutely unacceptable.”
A March 2006 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report indicated that many USCIS immigration employees do not have access to important law enforcement and national security databases, including terrorism watch lists, because the federal government has failed to complete required background checks on employees of the agency. The GAO report also gives numerous instances of fraud within USCIS and states that the agency does not do enough to deter it and will not have a fraud-management system in place until 2011. The former Director of the Office of Security and Investigations at USCIS cites 500 different allegations of criminal misconduct against agency employees, which have gone unresolved because the agency has only seven investigators to handle these allegations.
In addition, GAO cited a study which found that of the 94 terrorists known to operate in the U.S. between the early 1990s and 2004, including the September 11th hijackers, 59 of them committed immigration fraud and were still approved by USCIS.
“It is vital that we halt any consideration of enacting into law an amnesty or guestworker program until these charges of misconduct are fully investigated and a fraud-management system is fully implemented. Our national security is at stake if USCIS does not reform their security practices,” Sullivan said. “The allegations of misconduct and fraud at USCIS only further highlight the need to pass enforcement first legislation, and defer consideration of any guestworker program or amnesty of any kind.”

Americans support building a security fence along the entire 2,000 mile U.S.- Mexican border by a landslide, a new Time magazine poll has found.
By a margin of 56 to 40 percent, respondents said they want the wall built from sea to shining sea - not just the 700 miles stipulated in the House plan, a proposal the press calls "draconian."
In more evidence that the American people want a tougher crackdown on illegal immigration than anything favored by Congress or the media, 62 percent told Time that they favored using the military to guard the border. Just 35 percent opposed.
But the poll's biggest shocker may be on the question of deporting illegals back to their native country, an option that politicians and the press say is out of the question.
Time found, however, that 47 percent of those surveyed actually favor deporting "all illegal immigrants." 49 percent were opposed.
And 51 percent said the U.S. would be "better of" if all illegals were deported and the border sealed to prevent any more from coming in. Just 38 percent disagreed.A full 75 percent say illegals should be denied government supplied healthcare and food stamps, with 21 percent saying they should get those benefits. 69 percent say illegals shouldn't be allowed to get U.S. drivers licenses.

Congressman Sullivan Discusses Illegal Immigration with President Bush
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Sullivan issued the following statement regarding his meeting with President Bush:
“I met with President Bush today to discuss the 2006 legislative agenda. We were able to discuss many issues which are important to the American people, specifically illegal immigration.
“Illegal immigration is one of the most pressing issues facing our country today and is a top concern for many of my constituents, as it is for many Americans. There are currently 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S., which includes 40% of the immigrant population of Oklahoma. I explained to the President that local authorities must be provided with the resources necessary to combat illegal immigration, including increased bed space, detention facilities and the ability to enforce immigration laws.
![]()
“The President reiterated his opposition to granting blanket amnesty to those who are already in our country illegally. I believe that attrition is the key to getting those who are here illegally to leave – if we enforce and strengthen the laws that are already on the books regarding the employment of illegal aliens, we take away the economic incentive for them to break the law and come to the U.S. illegally. We must focus on enforcement first and secure our borders before we consider the idea of a guestworker program.
“The President moved from discussing immigration to the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism. He emphasized the need to help prepare our children for a global economy through increased math and science education.
“President Bush also let us know he was confident that Josh Bolten would do a good job replacing Andrew Card as his Chief of Staff. He indicated that Bolten would use his skills as the former Director of the Office of Management and Budget to help reform the budget process.”OFMERCE AWA

Federal Court Uphold President's Authority
News Max
A federal appeals court Thursday upheld the president's authority to regulate financial transactions with foreign countries during a security crisis and rejected a challenge by a man prosecuted for sending $100,000 into Iraq.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the first President Bush made proper use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act after Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990.
The court rejected a claim that invoking the act unfairly let the president create new criminal offenses that should only be authorized by Congress.
In an opinion explaining their decision, the judges said Congress has the authority to delegate some of its power to the president, especially in matters of foreign affairs, and noted that in a similar case, the Supreme Court upheld the president's power to criminalize the sale of weapons to certain countries._______________

Fatherhood
Legislation
Unanimously
Passed
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Sullivan’s resolution promoting marriage and honoring fathers passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 407-0. Congressman Sullivan is the co-chairman of the Congressional Fatherhood Caucus and a proud father.“As we anticipate the celebration of Father’s Day this weekend, I am proud to have introduced H. Res. 318 which supports responsible fatherhood, promotes marriage, and encourages greater involvement by fathers in the lives of their children,” said Sullivan. “Being a father is one of the greatest blessings in my life. I love my job, but I look forward to the end of the week when I can head back home to Tulsa and to my family.”
The resolution calls on fathers across the nation to use Father’s Day to reconnect and rededicate themselves to their children’s lives. Findings by the National Fatherhood Initiative show that the closer adolescents feel to their fathers, regardless of the type of family structure in which they live, the less likely it is that they will engage in the use of drugs or in delinquent behavior.
“Involved and proactive fathers help to shape confident and productive future citizens,” said Sullivan. “I introduced this resolution not only to honor fathers, but to call attention to the importance of the job. The role that fathers play in the development of their children cannot be understated. So as we honor fathers on Father’s Day, we should also encourage men to evaluate their own participation in their children’s lives, because you can never be too involved.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sullivan, along with several Members of the House, held a press conference this afternoon highlighting the deficiencies in the Senate bill.
“The Senate’s legislation, S. 2611, is a dangerous expansion of our immigration laws and it would be the largest expansion of the welfare state in 35 years,” Sullivan said. “Studies show that it will provide for approximately 103 million immigrants to come to the U.S. – legally – over the next 20 years. That is one-third of the current U.S. population. We must not allow this dangerous influx in immigration to occur.”
Congressman Sullivan, along with Representatives Tom Tancredo, Steve King, Dana Rohrabacher, Virgil Goode, Patrick McHenry, Ernest Istook and Ginny Brown-Waite, and members of the newly formed organization, “You Don’t Speak For Me,” a group of recent legal immigrants and Hispanic Americans who are opposed to giving amnesty to those who are here illegally, discussed their concerns about the Senate’s immigration reform legislation, which includes amnesty for the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. They emphasized the need for enforcement of our border and interior immigration laws first, before an amnesty or guestworker program is considered. “Border security is a vital step in ensuring national security.”
In addition, Congressman Sullivan and several Members of the House sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, expressing their concerns with the proposed Senate immigration legislation. The letter, signed by 29 House Members, draws attention to a recent Zogby poll which found that Americans prefer, by a two to one margin, the House of Representatives’ enforcement-only bill to several pending bills in the Senate that grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.
“In light of strong voter attitudes against the Senate approach toward immigration reform, the time has come for the Senate to act on comprehensive immigration enforcement legislation and reject calls to grant amnesty for an estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S.,” Sullivan said. “Our country desperately needs secure borders and a comprehensive immigration enforcement plan.”

Dad,
I'm sorry for the late letter, but I sent it as soon as I could. I am e-mailing you from Shenyang, at my exchange student's house. I wish that you could have been here. I just got back from school and started looking at my website. It's looking great. I've been tired in the past days shopping for you guys and I already purchased Mom's, Erin's, one set of chopsticks, a hat for me, and your gift.
If I'm calculating correctly, you should receive this e-mail at about 6:00 A.M. So, that being the case, good morning Jenks America! I have been having so much fun and I wish that you were here to enjoy it as well. In a Shenyang morning, I wake up, say a prayer, hang up my coat so that I can see the American Flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance.
Upon arriving here, I got sick. Maybe it was the culture shock or just the pure smell of fresh pollution, but one thing is for sure, as much as I do love it here, I can't wait to breathe in my next breath of American fresh air. I can't wait to see all of you. I miss you all very much.

The Nun-chuck Incident
by W. H. Killroy
In the afternoon of March 22nd Garrison Scott was detained at the Beijing Airport Police for carrying concealed weapons in his Carry on luggage while attempting to board a flight to Shenyang China.
According to Mrs Ellen Lannert, who was traveling with the young Martial Artist: "As we went through security, Garrison was pulled aside and his backpack was searched" "Apparently the set of nun-chucks that he purchased at the Kung fu show were packed in his backpack and not in his checked baggage."
Nun-chucks are considered weapons, and are not allowed to be carried on an aircraft anywhere, as far as this writer knows.
Lannert, in an E-mail sent on Thursday said, "They escorted him (Garrison) to a security area, took down his name and passport number and then they were going to send him back out to check the nun-chucks and go through security again!" "He decided to donate his nun-chucks to the Beijing International airport."

section of the city with courtyard homes that have been in the families for many years. It is very
traditional. We toured the Hutong on pedicabs, much like rickshaws. The kids got a kick out of it. We passed asign with pictures of dogs on it and Jakob started making jokes about dinner and he was having half Pekinese and half chow with cheese! We were taken to a home and shown how the house is really separate rooms
and buildings connected by the courtyard, which is no wider than a sidewalk. From there
we walked to the drum tower. It is another set of very steep stairs. Christine counted them and
remarked that there were 69! At the top of the Drum tower the students were lucky enough to catch atraditional drum ceremony.

On to the airport and goodbyes to Susan, our tour guide, and the driver.
As we went through security, Garrison was pulled aside and his backpack searched. Apparently
the set of numchucks that he purchased at the Kung fu show were packed in his backpack and not his checked baggage. They escorted him to a security area, took down his name and passport number and then they were going to send him back out to check the numchucks and go through security again! He decided to donate his numchucks to the Beijing International airport. We all could not stop laughing, including
Garrison. At least every five minutes someone would bring up the numchucks and we would all start laughing. We found out that our flight had been delayed due to snow in Shenyang that
morning! We camped out by the gate and the kids did a great job of amusing themselves. A
Chinese man came over and tried to have a conversation with the students. It was apparent there was a definite language barrier. He would write in characters and the kids would just look at them confused. They were all pulling out their translation books, but it didn't help mush. It did help to pass an hour at the airport! After a two hour delay we were on our way to Shenyang. What a greeting! They had banners and flowers and tons of people to greet
us. We were then loaded onto a tourist bus (greyhound type) that just happened to be owned
by Sui's (Christine's buddy) father. We were off to the school so the students could get their
uniforms. When we arrived at school and went to the conference room there were more flowers, banners from the students and the banners we had up at our school. The uniforms, notebooks, pen, penciland ID were set out on the table for the students. They were all checked that the uniforms fit and off they went for their first night with their families. Tiffany was definitely overwhelmed. I have never seen her so quiet. The girls with two buddies will be split five days with one family and five days with the other family. I wish we had known that before we left Tulsa! Anyway, from my last email you can see that they really did well. Emily wanted me to tell Parker Happy Birthday and Joey wanted to send a Happy Birthday to Johnny(late now
but on time when I first sent it!).___________

03/22/07 Shenyang: E-mail from Joey Copp
I just thought I'd let you all know that we heard from Joey after he arrived in Shenyang. It was a comically short email which was signed "Joey Copp" - lest we confuse him with some other Joey in China! He was with his "buddy" Huang, and I'm assuming he didn't want to spend much time on the computer. Can't wait to see those photos from Mrs. Lannert.

E-Mail from Kelseys Mom
I haven't rec'd a phone call either! However, I did get the world's shortest email from Kelsey this morning. She is at her buddy's (Lucy) house "and was very tired". She's no Mrs. Lannert with the details, that's for sure! Anyway, at least I know that they made it to Shenyang.

Coach Weis & Ellen Lannert Wednesday Beijing from Mrs Lannert:Ni Hao!
Day two started 03/21/07terday, but very overcast. By 11, theOur first trip was to the Jade Factory. We learned how to tell grade A from grade B jade. We watched the process of how the jade is etched.
You could tell that the kids were tired today. No one really seemed to get into any of it. They were pretty good shoppers. I had warned them that the jade would be very expensive in this shop, so they
refrained from purchasing any. From the jade factory, we headed to Ming’s Tomb. They were all sofascinated by the trees growing out of the side
of the wall. We entered the tomb and proceeded down the many flights of stairs. Christine decided there were so many she was going to count them on the way out.During the tour, I tried to get pictures of the various students. Tiffany is the hardest! She doesn’t mind if you take a
picture of her with her camera, but not with any one else’s! I have now dubbed her the Mona Lisa since she won’t give me a full smile when I take her picture! On to the Cloisonné shop and lunch. This is my favorite place! The amount of precision that goes into making each piece is really incredible. All the kids found it really interesting.
Dakota just couldn’t believe what they could do with copper.Lunch proved to be very interesting. This was our fish lunch and a fried, entire fish was brought to the table. Stuart and Tiffany had made an agreement with each other that they would eat the fish eyes. Emily and Christine have some great video of Tiffany’s reaction. Garrison has volunteered to now eat the next fish eye that arrives!
With lunch and shopping over, we went on to the Great Wall.It had snowed the day beforeand today it was really foggy. The students could not see the wall up on the mountains as we drove
to Badaling. I felt bad because it is such a neat view.Once at the wall, we took the group shot in the fog. You can just barely make out the wall in the background. We then broke up with the boys running ahead with Coach. Kelsey and Christine decided that they were going to take care of this old teacher! I didn’t think that it was possible, but the section we went up was even steeper than last
year! I wimped out! We met up with Tiffany and Garrison, so Christine, Kelsey, Garrison and Tiffany continued. They went to the next watchtower and then returned to the old wimp! Kelsey
and Garrison were done, but Christine and Tiffany decided to go back and complete the wall. The three of us wentto the gate. I enjoyed this part because
I had a chance to get to know Kelsey and Garrison even better. Very neat kids! The rest of the group made it to the end of the wall section. Quite a feat! Emily was really proud of herself. Of course she said later that she thought her legs would hurt, but that the outsides of her feet hurt the most!

Coach Weis has earned the name the Negotiator. He has me beat by a longway. He talked them down to a dollar
for baseball caps! Dakota, Stuart, Jakob, and Garrison have decided to only shop when he is with them! He did such a great job, that as we were leaving and on the bus the vendors came. He had about ten of them trying to sell stuff and he got a few more caps for a dollar along with some more Russian hats much cheaper than I dealt yesterday.
We returned to the hotel and walked up the street to dinner. Joey definitely has issues with chopsticks! He dropped them at lunch and again at dinner. He at least caught his dinner set
before they hit the ground! No one was very hungry and after just two days they are already sick of Chinese food. They
still have 11 days more of it!Travel has caught up with Christine. I walked her back to the hotel as Coach Weis took the others to shop and look
at the street food vendors after dinner. They are out with him as I write this and Christine is tucked in bed, already asleep.Tomorrow is the traditional Hutong, Bell Tower with tea ceremony and then
off to Shenyang. They will finally meet their Chinese buddy, and for the girls, find out which one they will bewith!I tried sending pictures last night with no luck. The internet connection at the hotel in Shenyang is much faster than
the one here, so I will post all of the pictures on Kodak Gallery tomorrow night.Until then, Zai Chian!

Monday Beijing from Mrs Lannert: Today was a very long and cold day. It was over-cast and breezy the entire day. Most did not bundle up as well as we suggested.
The first stop was Tiannamen Square and the Forbidden City. By the time we left, Joey's hands were bright red, along with his ears! He did manage to thaw out at lunch.
Following the Forbidden City, we went to the Lama Temple and saw the 18 meter Buddha made of a single Sandlewood tree. As we were leaving, Stuart, Garrison and Jakob
wanted Russian winter hats. The kiosk wanted 180rmb (about $23.00). The boys called me over and learned something about bargaining. We talked them done to 45rmb, (about $6.00). Stuart thought that was the greatest feat!Lunch was....Chinese! They all seemed to enjoy lunch. Stuart is our steamed white rice king. He
can't get enough. Christine is the tea Queen. Her face just lit up after the first sip of Jasmine.I got to sit next to Emily and found her Chinese not only excellent, but how well she is handling being away
from home. She said it was the first night that she had not talked to her Mom, but she was great. I'll make sure to keep a close eye on her as the days pass.
Kelsey had a ton of fun watching all of us try to eat with chop-sticks. I have dubbed her my humor girl (but haven't told her that yet). She is just so happy all of the time and can find the simplest of things funny.
On to the Temple of Heaven, which was even colder. From there we went to the pearl market where Tiffany made a very good deal on a necklace. We went down to the second floor of "designer" purses, where Christine learned
that it really is okay to
say no and walk away. She ended up making a steal, thanks to some help from our tour guide, on a purse.Dinner was Peking duck. Most of the kids ate it except for Joey, Garrison and Tiffany.Joey was having issues with the
chopsticks, dropped them on the floor and not 5 seconds later dropped his fork on the floor. On to the Kong Fu show where Stuart fell asleep! The rest stayed awake for most of it and really thought it was cool. Dakota really was watching out
for those that aren't watching
for themselves.Tomorrow the China Wall.

Update from Mrs Lannert, Beijing: What an adventure. The flight from Denver to San Francisco was delayed for 1 1/2 hours. This meant the students would miss their connection to Beijjing. The
kids were so great. Mrs Lannert had to stand in line and try to make arrangements. United told them to get on the Denver flight and booked the group out of San Francisco to Beijing on Sunday. That meant they would have had to stay in San Francisco
for the evening.
Garrison catches a few winks while in Shanghai
Once we landed in San Francisco, they put all of the Beijing passangers on the Shanghai flight. " We literally had to run to the gate," said Mrs Lannert.
The kids did well on the long flight. It was not as nice a plane as they had expected, but the meal service was very good.
"Most of the stucents tried to sleep some, except for Garrison," said Mrs Lannert. "He seemed to be our sentry, and no matter how many times I told him he should try and sleep, he didn't."When they arrived in Shanghai, they had a four hour layover. Mrs Lannert went to about
every ticket counter
until she found the correct China Eastern counter for check in. Once at the gate, all but Kelsey passed out.

TRY IT
IN
MEXICO!
I found this in an E-mail the other day. It's so true!
Enter Mexico illegally. Never mind immigration quotas, visas, international law, or any of that nonsense.
Once there, demand that the local government provide free medical care for you and your entire family.
Demand bilingual nurses and doctors. Than demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc. Procreate abundantly.
Deflect any criticism of this allegedly irresponsible reproductive behavior with, "It is a cultural USA thing. You would not understand, pal."
Keep your American identity strong. Fly Old Glory from your rooftop, or proudly display it in your front window or on your car bumper.
Speak only English at home and in public and insist that your children do likewise.
Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican school system.
Demand a local Mexican driver license. This will afford other legal rights and will go far to legitimize your unauthorized, illegal presence in Mexico. Than drive around with no liability insurance and ignore local traffic laws.
Insist that the local Mexican law enforcement teach English to all it's officers.
Good luck! You'll be demanding for the rest of time or until you are dead, because it will never happen. It will not happen in Mexico or any other country in the world except right here in the United States, Land of the naive and stupid, idiotic, politically correct poin Mexico or Iraq.
